Why visitors dropped

Visitors dropped? You get the answer, not just the graph

Analytics shows you that traffic fell. Helicopterview tells you why. We compare every site with its own normal, and when visits drop we test eleven possible causes against your Analytics, Search Console, Cloudflare and Sentry data and our own daily scans.

What we check

What we test when visits drop

Automatic drop detection

Every day we compare the last 7 days with the 3 weeks before. A drop of 25% or more triggers an analysis and an email.

Lost Google rankings

Which search terms and pages lost clicks, and how far their position fell.

Tracking problems

An analytics tag that disappeared or a new cookie banner, so you don’t chase a drop that isn’t real.

Channel collapse

Paid search that stopped (often a billing issue), a newsletter that didn’t go out, or a referral that vanished.

Outages, errors and speed

Downtime, a spike in JavaScript errors or pages that suddenly got slower around the day the drop started.

Blocked by accident

A noindex tag, robots.txt rule or canonical change that hides pages from Google.

Why it matters

Small problems, big consequences

When traffic falls, most people open five tools, compare dates by hand and still guess. The cause is usually one of a dozen known things, and the evidence is already in your data. Helicopterview puts it side by side, ranks the likely causes and tells you the first thing to fix.

  • Part of one daily scan that also covers availability, security, speed, search, email and tracking.
  • Findings are ranked by impact across all your sites, so you always know what to do first.
  • Every finding explains why it matters and exactly how to fix it.

Frequently asked questions

Which data do you need?

It works best with Google Analytics and Search Console connected. Cloudflare, Sentry and our own daily scans add more evidence. Without connections we still detect outages, tracking changes and blocked pages.

How quickly do I hear about a drop?

Connected data refreshes every 6 hours. As soon as a drop crosses the threshold you get an email with the top causes.

Does it change anything in my accounts?

Not on its own. Analysis is read-only. Changes only happen when you open a fix, check the preview and approve it, and every change can be undone.

What if there is no clear cause?

We say so, list what we ruled out, and point to the remaining options such as seasonality or a competitor campaign.
