SSL & domain expiry

SSL and domain expiry monitoring, before it’s too late

An expired certificate puts a full-screen warning in front of every visitor. An expired domain takes the site and email down. Helicopterview warns you weeks in advance.

No credit card. Nothing to install.

Example from the fix list

When it expires browsers block the site with a security warning.

What we check

Everything ssl & domain expiry covers

Certificate expiry

Days left on every certificate, with an early warning when auto-renewal seems to have failed.

Certificate validity

Whether browsers trust the certificate: right name, complete chain, not self-signed.

Issuer

Which authority issued it, so you know whether it renews automatically (Let’s Encrypt) or must be bought.

HTTPS redirect

Whether visitors on http:// are sent to the secure version.

Domain registration expiry

The registration end date where the registry publishes it, with a reminder to renew.

Nameserver changes

An alert when the DNS provider of a domain changes unexpectedly.

Why it matters

Small problems, big consequences

Certificates are supposed to renew themselves, until a DNS change or server move breaks auto-renewal and nobody notices. When the certificate or the domain lapses, the site is effectively offline for every visitor.

  • Part of one daily scan that also covers availability, security, speed, search, email and tracking.
  • Findings are ranked by impact across all your sites, so you always know what to do first.
  • Every finding explains why it matters and exactly how to fix it.

Frequently asked questions

How early do you warn?

For certificates that don’t auto-renew we warn at 30 days; for any certificate we escalate to critical at 14 days.

Can you see domain expiry for .nl domains?

SIDN doesn’t publish expiry dates for .nl, so we show it for domains where the registry does (.com, .net, .io and many more).

Do you check the www version too?

We check the certificate on the domain you add, including which names it covers.

What if I use Cloudflare?

That works fine. We check the certificate visitors actually see.
